"Mick Jagger"

Andy Warhol

famous painting Mick Jagger of Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol was a prominent figure in the Pop Art Movement, his career was defined by his portrayal of popular icons. One such portrayal is of Mick Jagger, whom he met in 1963 where the two formed a friendship and professional relationship; they would go on to work together in the future. . Mick Jagger was the lead singer of the rock and roll band Rolling Stones, and Warhol loved Jagger’s ‘bad boy’ image. Warhol was commissioned to create the album cover art for the Rolling Stones, which became renowned for its expressivity and provocativeness. In 1975, Warhol made a portfolio of 10 screen prints of Mick Jagger in various poses. He used broad strips of opaque colour that would cover the singer’s face, making it look like a collaged fragments, and combined it with hand drawn elements. This series showed Andy Warhol’s expressiveness that was previously subdued. The abstract colours and shapes foreshadow Andy Warhol’s progressing interest in non-representational work.
